Joint injections can offer relief from nerve, joint, muscle or spinal pain in just a few hours. At Totality Health we combine Joint Injections with other treatments that repair the cause of the inflammation or pain for long lasting results. You don’t have to resign yourself to a lifetime of pain medications that can leave you feeling unbalanced.
What are Joint Injections
Joint Injections go directly to the source of your pain and stop it. The needle used penetrates the joint or area around the nerve and delivers the medication to the exact location it’s needed. This type of therapy can also be beneficial for soft tissue.
Local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory steroid medications are injected into multiple areas such as—the spine, specifically the epidural space in the contact areas of the spine such as facet joints and SI (sacroiliac) joints—the peripheral joints—hips, knees, shoulders, elbows, ankles, plantar fascia, hamstrings and trigger fingers—and soft tissues.
Steroid injections work by reducing inflammation and eliminating chronic pain. They also restore range of motion and mobility.
Conditions that can be treated:
What to Expect
For up to six hours after the injection, you may experience numbness and/or relief from your symptoms. Your symptoms may return and possibly increase in pain level for a day or two. The benefits of the steroid injection usually requires 2-3 days to take full effect, but can sometimes take as long as 10-14 days. A second or third injection may be required for some patients. If your pain isn’t relieved after a reasonable amount of time, your doctor will further investigate your condition and determine a different course of action.
The Benefits of Anti-Inflammatory Injections
If your provider at Totality Health feels you are a good candidate for Injection Inflammation Relief, the benefits may include: localized pain relief, rapid relief, stopping of arthritic progression and long lasting results, all with few side effects.
Possible Side Effects
Possible side effects of Steroid Injections are facial redness, low-grade fever and flu like symptoms, hiccups, sweating, anxiety, insomnia, headaches, increased heart rate, frequent urination, generalized swelling and abdominal cramping or bloating. These side effects occur in less than 5% of patients and generally disappear within a few days.
While injections are great for the treatment of pain, they cannot resolve the underlying issue. We use injections to relieve patients in severe pain, however, it is critical to follow up with further diagnostic treatments. Inflammation Injections can reduce the need for chiropractic care and in conjunction with other treatments, can resolve your pain and swelling.
